My chains fell off, my heart is free
Meena Devi (pictured above) is a woman who has experienced a life of hardship and discrimination. As a young bride, she moved into the home of her husband’s family.
Cultural practices over generations in Jharkhand state, India, kept her confined and allowed her husband’s family to have total control over her life.
“I felt like I was a criminal. I could not raise my voice. I could not freely go outside. My life feel like I was trapped in a jail.”
Tragically, Meena’s experiences are all too familiar in Jharkhand state, where trafficking is rife, and half of all girls aged 15 to 19 are married. Child brides are often subjected to violence and abuse at the hands of their husbands and other relatives.
With your gift and prayers today, we can support brave women in India as they stand against injustice, break invisible chains and discover the joy of freedom.
