This Autumn, many churches around the UK will be celebrating Harvest, and if they’re using All We Can’s resources, they will be introduced to communities in Zimbabwe struggling to grow enough food to provide for their families’ needs. This Autumn we consider the issues affecting farmers in some of the poorest places in the world and pray for those who are affected.
Unpredictable and insufficient rainfall has meant that poor rural communities in Zimbabwe are struggling to grow enough food. All We Can is helping these communities find alternative ways to provide for their families’ needs, such as by starting new businesses. This Harvest time, pray for the communities in Zimbabwe who are faced with poor harvests, through the support of All We Can may they be successful in developing new ways to provide for their families that are reliable and long term.
Deforestation in rural areas of Ethiopia has negatively affected the quality of the soil, making growing crops a difficult task for farmers. All We Can is providing communities with seedlings to plant and helping them to protect the soil through terracing techniques. Jill Baker, Vice President of the Methodist Conference, saw some of this work first hand. This Harvest time, pray for communities in Ethiopia who are working hard on their land, may the new techniques they use and the seedlings they plant begin to change their land to be better productive to meet their needs.
Inefficient farming methods
All We Can is supporting the Methodist Church in Uganda to work with struggling farmers, helping them to develop techniques that produce a greater crop. Using a model farm, groups of farmers identified as particularly vulnerable, are given training to show them how to protect the crops and to gather the harvest effectively. Loraine Mellor, President of the Methodist Conference, recently visited this work. This Harvest time, pray for the Methodist Church in Uganda, as they reach out to the needs of their community in practical ways through the support of All We Can.
Thank you for your provision through the world that you made
Help us to be good stewards, imaging you with our care
May we be willing to share the good gifts of your earth so that all people can flourish
Be with those who are struggling to grow enough food and stir us to respond in love
